A great everyday pen for your purse or shirt pocket. A single-twist Sierra style pen wrapped in a beautiful piece of Afzelia Burl. For this pen, I hand-turned the wooden blank on my lathe, sealed it with 6-8 coats of cyanoacrylate glue, and then wet sanded it to 12,000, creating a mirror-like finish. Two coats Renaissance Wax were used to reduce the sheen slightly and to prevent fingerprints. A single twist opens or closes the pen.
Afzelia is a beautifully figured wood that originates in Southeast Asia and Africa. While sometimes used as reeds in harmonicas, it also finds uses in furniture, cabinetry, veneer, flooring, docks, boatbuilding, exterior millwork, and construction, turned objects, inlays, and other small specialty wood items. Like most woods, the burls are highly valued. This piece of Afzelia burl has been in my collection since 2010 and is now ready to be shared.

Great for emergencies, holiday arrangements, or just for the peaceful ambiance of a beeswax candle burning. This candle needs to be placed on a dish, large candle holder or something similar when lit.
