The Apiary
The Apiary at Honey Meadow Farm was founded to allow the honey bees in our care the opportunity to do what bees have been doing for millions of years–to make honey in an as natural and healthy environment as possible without additional exposure to pesticides or antibiotics. By raising our bees holistically, our goal is to create resistant bees that adapt to the environmental pressures of today’s world.
– John Snowdon, Beekeeper
Bee Facts
Honey bees taste with their feet, smell with their antennae, have hair on their 5 eyes, see the color red as black, do see ultraviolet colors, beat their wings over 11,000 times/min and fly 15 mph. They are the sole bee that stings only once and then dies. They will normally warn their victim by bumping up against them to try to fend off the threat before finally stinging. Unless Africanized, honey bees only sting in defense and are not aggressive.
